Creative Process Walkthrough &Video Game Ideation
“Wand & Wander: A Witchy Action Game” is a fictional video game I dreamed up for an assignment on visualizing my creative process. The goal of the assignment was to show each step I took in designing a public relations campaign.
I started with one thought: There are too few action games targeted toward young girls to help them learn the ropes. From there, I developed the plot of the game and designed the characters in Procreate. After that, I decided on 8-to-12-year-old girls for my game’s audience, so I targeted my public relations toward them and their parents. For the children, I designed a character creator app, and for the adults, I chose parenting magazines. In the slide deck, I installed “Creative Process Breaks” to step away from the campaign and show how I arrived at each decision.
This was a wonderful way to learn how I systematically think through an issue. By slowing down and taking each step so deliberately, I was able to muse on my audiences and allow my passion for the subject to guide me to a thoughtful solution. When I presented this deck, my classmates resonated with the messaging and wished they had been targeted with something like this in their childhood.
